Vote GEORGE M. GEORGE for YRDSB Trustee for Wards 4 & 5

October 12 to 22 In-Person & Online

Greetings Friends,

My name is George and I am running to be your School Board Trustee with the York Region District School Board. I’m here working hard to earn your vote in this October’s municipal election. In 2014, with the support of more than 4,500 Ward 4 and 5 residents, we came close to making a change for the better.  Unfortunately, the election was not decided in our favour. We were shy by 118 votes, which shows the importance of why every vote counts.

My objective is to drive positive change in our community, working in service of Markham students, families and education. I am looking to give my 35+ years in public education in order to serve the Markham community that my family has cherished as our home for 30-years.

I am a person who believes in action. I believe communities grow with strong leadership and people who put in the work to make change happen. This belief has led me to be actively involved in my church community, where I have made it a priority to help mentor and work with families. I am also actively involved in the leadership of my church community, where we are continuously building, fundraising and creating programs to serve our neighbours.

However, my community service does not stop there. I have been a proud member and active contributor to the local Rotary Club for a number of years. I have held many roles within the organization, where some of my proudest moments have been in helping to fundraise and award scholarships to high school students.  In addition, I believe that strong communities need to come together to grow. I’ve had the great opportunity to lead and participate in wonderful community events, volunteer initiatives and causes including the Annual Markham Santa Claus Parade, Yellow Brick House and York Region Crime Prevention.

In speaking to our community, Markham families are talking about the need for improvements for their children in the public education system. They are talking about the need for much better results, efficiency and responsiveness from the School Board and your Trustee.  Our community is also talking about the need for stronger advocacy that works in true partnership with all community members, as well as representation that stands up for the needs of students and families first.

They are looking for a Change for the Better.

With all candidates seeking your vote and responsibility for our children’s futures, I encourage you to ask very fair and fundamental questions:

  • What is their track record and personal impact in public education?
  • What is their experience in providing leadership on the complex issues, budgets and stakeholder needs involved with elementary and secondary education?
  • What is their level of commitment to children, families and the role of Trustee?
  • Are they genuinely dedicated to working hard for you and putting students and families first?

I’m answering these questions and any other questions or concerns you may have to earn your vote this October 12 to 22. I am confident that I will be a great Trustee for your children and a strong partner and ally to parents and educators.  Let’s work together to demand and achieve better for our children.

My commitment as your Trustee is to be highly accessible and my standard is one of service excellence.   Please feel free to contact me directly by phone, e-mail or online at www.georgemgeorge.ca.

Once again, thank you very much.  I hope to have the honour of your vote in this election and the opportunity to serve students, families and our community as your School Board Trustee.

Sincerely,

George M. George
